EK-D16 is a high- and low-temperature resistant anticorrosive coating — a new-generation two-component anticorrosive coating with excellent performance and a semi-permanent service life. Compared with conventional coatings it offers many distinctive characteristics, including heavy-duty corrosion protection, high- and low-temperature resistance, abrasion resistance, impact resistance and electrical insulation (the cured film is electrically insulating). The main chain segments are based on a fluorosilicone polymer, partially end-capped with isocyanate NCO reactive groups, and the reactive groups are additionally encapsulated.
During application, atmospheric oxygen triggers the release of the reactive groups, which then form strong chemical bonds with the polar surface of the protected material while simultaneously undergoing chain extension and cross-linking, producing an interpenetrating polymer network (PIN). Owing to the low viscosity of the initial low-molecular-weight stage, the coating penetrates the protected material and fills the pits in its surface, achieving a firm bond between the anticorrosive material and the protected substrate and ultimately forming a dense surface layer.

Storage, packaging & transport
Store in accordance with national regulations. The storage environment must be dry, cool and well ventilated, away from heat and ignition sources. Packaging containers must be kept tightly sealed and placed with care.
Storage temperature must be maintained between 5 °C and 30 °C; shelf life is 6 months.
Once a container has been opened, any unused coating must be stored with the lid tightly resealed.
Mixed coating that is not used up cannot be reclaimed; dispose of it in accordance with local regulations.
Product past its shelf life may be used only after testing confirms it still meets specification.

Standard process: Surface cleaning → abrasive roughening → cleaning and blow-off → EK-D16 application → curingAbrasive roughening. Before coating, sand or blast the substrate surface to remove rust, dust, dirt and other contamination adhering to the workpiece. Surface roughening has a major influence on coating performance — Sa2.5 is optimal, St3 with no mill scale is the minimum (GB/T 30790.4-2014) — so pay close attention to this step.Cleaning. Use a dedicated cleaner or degreaser to remove oil, dust and other residues remaining on the roughened surface.Substrate drying. Before coating, ensure the substrate surface is dry and clean.Coating mixing. For two-component products, dispense the required amount of coating at the specified mixing ratio, stir until fully homogeneous, and filter through a 300-mesh screen before use.Coating application. For laboratory spray application, a spray gun with a 1.0 nozzle orifice gives better appearance and uniformity.Curing. Curing time is closely related to film thickness, curing temperature and forced-air velocity. At a given thickness and air velocity, the approximate relationship between surface-dry time and temperature is: under normal temperature and humidity (20 ± 15 °C, relative humidity 65 ± 20% RH), without added curing agent, surface-dry time is about 6 hours; about 5 hours at 30 °C; about 4 hours at 40 °C; about 3 hours at 50 °C. (Note: when surface-dry time falls below 3 hours, the risk of quality defects increases accordingly. Also pay attention to the gradient of the heating curve — going directly to a high-temperature state after application will impair coating quality.)Note: If this product is supplied as a two-component ambient-curing product, use the mixed coating within 3 hours. During longer breaks in application, clean the application tools thoroughly to prevent them from setting up. Application in a single spray pass is recommended, with a dry film thickness not exceeding 200 µm; otherwise film performance will decline. Working time of the mixed material: 3 hours recommended, 6 hours maximum (confirmed by the manufacturer).
