How this grade works and where it fits — exact parameters are defined in the TDS.

This product uses a silicon-based ceramic precursor — polysilazane (PSZ) — as the film-forming substance and is a solvent-free, room-temperature self-curing product. The principal curing reactions are hydrolysis of Si-NH-Si and in-situ polycondensation between Si-OH groups. At the same time, the Si-H and Si-NH-Si bonds react directly with -OH groups on the substrate surface, so the coating bonds to the substrate through chemical covalent bonds. After curing, the resin forms a three-dimensional, high-strength, highly dense crosslinked network structure that gives the material good physical and chemical properties; pencil hardness exceeds 6H with no yellowing. On this basis, phenyl functional groups are introduced, improving the high- and low-temperature stability, the insulating and mechanical properties of the product, and the weather and chemical resistance of the resin.

It is suitable for wear-resistant, weather-resistant, fire-protection and insulating coatings, outdoor hydrophobic self-cleaning anti-aging coatings, skin-friendly antibacterial main coats, and similar applications. The Si-N bond reacts readily with hydroxyl-containing substances, so the product can be used as an amine-type curing agent; it can also be used to modify hydroxyl-containing resins — such as phenolic, epoxy, alkyd and acrylic resins — to improve their temperature and weathering resistance.

Choose this grade as a solvent-free room-temperature-curing polysilazane base for flame-retardant duty: >1500 h salt spray, -30…400 °C service with 800 °C peaks.

The temperature resistance of the coating varies according to the temperature resistance of the particular substrate; the coating resists hot–cold cycling and thermal shock (note: the corresponding product differs depending on the substrate).

Carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloy, titanium alloy, high-temperature alloy steel, glass-ceramic panel, ceramic, cement and other materials are all suitable. Note: the coating formulation differs for different substrates; within a certain range, it can be adjusted to match the substrate and its service conditions.

Storage, packaging & transport

  • Store in accordance with national regulations. The storage environment should be dry, cool and well ventilated, away from heat and ignition sources. Packaging containers must be kept tightly sealed and placed with care.

  • The storage temperature must be maintained between 5 °C and 30 °C; the shelf life is 18 months.

  • Coating that has been opened but not used up must be resealed with the container lid and stored sealed.

  • Prepared (mixed) coating that has not been used up cannot be reclaimed; dispose of it in accordance with local regulations.

  • Product past its shelf life may be used only after testing confirms that it still meets specification.

Standard process: Surface cleaning → Abrasive roughening → Cleaning and blow-off → EK-S02B application → Curing

  • Abrasive roughening. Before coating, sand or blast the substrate surface to remove rust, dust, dirt and other contamination adhering to the surface of the workpiece. Roughening has a considerable influence on coating performance — optimum Sa2.5, minimum St3 with no mill scale (GB/T 30790.4-2014) — so pay full attention to this step.

  • Cleaning. Use a dedicated cleaning agent or degreaser to remove oil, dust and other residues remaining on the sanded surface.

  • Substrate drying. Before coating, ensure that the substrate surface is dry and clean.

  • Coating mixing. This product is one-component; take the required amount of product and filter it through a 120-mesh screen before use.

  • Coating application. For laboratory spray application, a spray gun with a 1.0 nozzle orifice gives better appearance and uniformity. The cured coating is somewhat hydrophobic and oleophobic, so recoating is not recommended.

  • Curing. After spraying, room-temperature curing: surface-dry in 2 hours, touch-dry in more than 3 hours, through-dry in more than 24 hours.

Note: This product is a one-component self-curing product; once the container has been opened, use the coating within 4 hours. During longer application intervals, application tools should be cleaned thoroughly to prevent them from setting solid. Application in a single spray pass is recommended, with a dry film thickness not exceeding 50 µm; otherwise the coating film performance will decline.
