Methylvinyl polysilazane is a polymer whose main chain is built of Si—N bonds. The Si—C=C bond provides carbon–carbon unsaturated double-bond reactive sites: it can be used to modify resins containing unsaturated olefins, addition reactions can be used to obtain methylvinyl polysilazane of a specific viscosity and molecular weight, and further reactive groups can be introduced through addition reactions at the carbon–carbon double bond.

The Si—N bond reacts readily with hydroxyl-containing substances, so the product can serve as an amine-type curing agent and can also modify hydroxyl-containing resins to improve heat resistance and weatherability — for example phenolic, epoxy, alkyd and acrylic resins.

Choose this grade when you need carbon–carbon unsaturated reactive sites: methylvinyl polysilazane for addition-cure routes, -30…400 °C service with 800 °C peaks.

Service temperature. Maximum withstand temperature 800 °C; suitable for long-term service at 400 °C. Coatings compounded with heat-resistant nano-fillers withstand direct flame or high-temperature gas-flow scouring. The coating's temperature resistance varies according to the temperature capability of the substrate; resistant to hot–cold cycling and thermal shock (note: the product supplied differs according to the substrate).

Note: The coating formulation differs with the substrate; within a certain range it can be adjusted and matched to the substrate and its service conditions.

Storage, packaging & transport

  • Store in accordance with national regulations. The storage environment should be dry, cool and well ventilated, away from heat and ignition sources. Packaging containers must be kept tightly closed and placed with care.

  • The storage temperature must be maintained between 5 °C and 30 °C; the shelf life is 6 months.

  • Opened but unused coating must be stored with the container lid tightly sealed.

  • Mixed coating that is not used up cannot be reclaimed and should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

  • Product beyond its shelf life may be used only after testing confirms it still meets specification.

Standard process: Surface cleaning → Abrasive roughening → Cleaning and blow-off → EK-S04 treatment → Curing

  • Abrasive roughening. Before coating, sand or grit-blast the substrate surface to remove rust, dust, dirt and other deposits adhering to the surface to be treated. Roughening has a considerable influence on coating performance: Sa2.5 is optimal and St3 with no mill scale is the minimum (GB/T 30790.4-2014), so pay close attention to this step.

  • Cleaning. Remove residual oil, dust and other contamination from the roughened surface with a dedicated cleaner or degreaser.

  • Substrate drying. Before coating, ensure the substrate surface is dry and clean.

  • Coating mixing. This product is one-component; take the required quantity and filter it through a 120-mesh screen before use.

  • Coating application. For laboratory spray application, a spray gun with a 1.0 orifice gives better appearance and uniformity. The cured coating is somewhat hydrophobic and oleophobic, so repeated recoating is not recommended.

  • Curing. After spraying, allow 10 minutes for surface drying, then cure at 250 °C for 90 minutes.

Note: This product is a one-component heat-curing product; once the container is opened, use the coating within 24 hours. During longer breaks in application, clean the application tools thoroughly to prevent them from setting up. Application in a single spray pass is recommended, with a dry film thickness not exceeding 15 µm; otherwise coating film performance will decline.
