The material

How this grade works and where it fits — exact parameters are defined in the TDS.

1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (CAS 83048-65-1) is a fluorosilane surface modifier.

  • This product hydrolyzes faster and more efficiently than ethoxylated fluorosilanes.

  • On hydrolysis, methanol is released. The reactive silanol formed can bond chemically with hydroxyl, carboxyl and oxygen-containing groups in many inorganic and organic substrates, forming a self-assembled monomolecular fluorosilicone film on the inorganic surface.

  • The treated substrate has extremely low surface energy and very poor wettability, giving excellent hydrophobic, oleophobic and antifouling performance.

Choose this fluorosilane when a surface has to end up with very low surface energy — hydrophobic, oleophobic and antifouling behaviour on stone, glass, ceramics, silica and fibreglass. It hydrolyses faster and more efficiently than ethoxylated fluorosilanes, and on hydrolysis releases methanol.

Note that it is a surface modifier, not a ready coating: an acid or alkali catalyst is required, and the silane is normally diluted to a 1–2% solution in isopropanol before use.

Applications

Recommended application areas for this grade, based on its TDS. Application fit is confirmed during technical review.

Hydrolyzes faster and more efficiently than ethoxylated fluorosilanes; the reactive silanol bonds chemically with hydroxyl, carboxyl and oxygen-containing groups of inorganic and organic substrates, forming a self-assembled monomolecular fluorosilicone film. Treated surfaces show extremely low surface energy and excellent hydrophobic, oleophobic and antifouling behaviour.
